Federico Brandani

About: My interest in photography starts early in my life: when I was eight i managed to
get my hands on my father’s pentax 35mm, and although i wasn’ quite sure what i was
doing i had a lot of fun snapping random photos. Fast forward to the early 2000’s after
saving for a long time I bought a brand new D90 and started to get interested in the
technical aspects of photography. At that point I was certainly enjoying myself but I
couldn't say photography was a passion, but it all changed one summer night: I was still
living in my hometown in Italy, when I decided to go out in the middle of the night, with
my camera and tripod. I didn’t know what to expect, I just mounted the camera on the
tripod and set for a long exposure. The result deeply changed my relationship with
photography, and night photography is still my favourite niche, although I’m also
experimenting in landscape (mainly woodlands) and street photography.

Interests: I like a lot of stuff! Computers for starters (I work as a software engineer)
electronics, cooking, woodworking, DIY, motorcycles, and role playing games are just a
few to mention

History: Being naturally curious I experimented with different hobbies, but my interest in
them has always been on-and-off. Apart from photography: I’ve always gravitated back to
my camera after trying some new things, and that gave me many opportunity to learn new
concepts and applying them to photography.

What Federico has to say: People (especially those approaching photography just recently) think that
having a fancy expensive camera is a requirement to be able to take good photos. Cameras
are just a tool (albeit a pretty one): the important bit in my opinion is that photography is
basically storytelling. The story that the photo tells is way more important than the tool(s)
used to create it.
